Frank Bruni addresses the importance of the humanities in the AI age in the New York Times of August 24 (How Should College Students Navigate AI? By the Oldest Truest Stars.) Bruni points to the endurance over time of the humanities by urging students “…to focus not on what seems practical in the present but on what’s durably useful – what transcends any technology and outlasts any fad.” For Bruni what is “durably useful” are what he calls the “thoroughbreds of the liberal arts”: literature, history, anthropology and philosophy.
